I love to be part of a lot of communities, so I keep exploring various opportunities. I came to know about the Wimlds mentorship program through one of my telegram group of Women in Tech IIIT Delhi.

I found it to be a great opportunity and thought to apply for it. I was really happy to receive the welcome mail and also I was happy to know that my application was one out of the selected ones from 170 applications.

Then I learned about my mentor Arushi Chauhan and she welcomed us all through the mail thread. The session was scheduled for 29–03–2021. The first meeting was very friendly and informative. I got to interact with my co-mentees and mentor. The mentor was very friendly and she gave us an introduction to various opportunities and career fields. We all were very keen to hear from her and the session was extended a bit as all of us enjoyed it.

The mentor talked about the importance of competitive coding and data structures for cracking interviews. She talked about various programs and opportunities that one can apply for. Also, we learned about various technology fields like web development,machine-learning, android development, and cloud. We also learned about career options like Masters of science, Mtech, and their scope . She also highlighted the importance of having a decent CGPA and how one can either continue as a research intern or go for a job in the industry. All of the information was really helpful and we even asked our doubts and queries.

This was all about about the first session in brief:

After the first session, a 1:1 session was planned with my mentor.

In that session, I talked to my mentor about my doubts and confusion. I talked about my goals and plans. She gave me advice on how I should process further with my coding . As I have been learning web development for a short span of time but currently I really feel I should get consistent with data structures and algorithms, so she suggested me to start with coding platforms , watch youtube playlists and try to be regular with my practice. As I had a lot of doubts regarding where to start from and how to proceed with my practice so she suggested to me about that also.

I got to know about a lot of things and really enjoyed the sessions. I have decided to brush up my basics from various websites and then proceed with the ones suggested by my mentor.

As this practice and learning requires daily consistency and a lot more time than four weeks I am looking forward to more tips and advice regarding how to proceed : )
